A Historical Study on the Modern White House Communications Regime (1897-2017)

讲座摘要

进入现代以来，美国总统与媒体保持频繁接触、各种政治传播活动不断走向专业化与正规化。从1897年至今，22位政治立场和性格特点迥异的总统为打造现代白宫政治传播体系做出了各自的贡献。百余年的历史证明，这个体系保持了较强的继承性和连贯性；政治传播必须适应传播技术和传媒生态等外部环境的变化；在越来越重视政治传播工作的同时，总统也在不断尝试绕过新闻媒体，直接与民众沟通。

In modern times, US presidents have maintained frequent contact with the media, and presidential communications have become routine and professional. Since 1897, 22 presidents with diverging characters and political backgrounds have made their respective contributions to the White House communications operations. Studying the evolution of this system, we may come to the following conclusions: the system has maintained its consistency; political communication must adapt to the changes in technologies and the overall media environment; and while paying more attention to political communication, US presidents have been trying to get around the traditional media and establish a direct link with the public.
