讲座摘要:This lecture will start by thinking about poems written about the events of ‘Bloody Sunday’ in the Northern Irish ‘Troubles’, in 1972, when 13 protesters were shot dead by British soldiers. It will think about the relations between poetry, culture and violence in Northern Ireland but will end up by thinking about poetry and peace – as precariously achieved in the Good Friday agreement of 1996. And it will also think about Seamus Heaney, his influence and that of his Northern Irish contemporaries over English and world poetry: a small place with extraordinary poetic success.
