About the Speaker

Dr. Elizabeth Tuleja is an associate professor of management at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. Her area of expertise is Intercultural Communication and Global Leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she teaches courses in Intercultural Communication and Management for BBA, MBA, and Executive MBA programs and leads cross-cultural immersion programs in China several times a year. Prior to Notre Dame, Dr. Tuleja was on the faculty at the Wharton School as well as the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Besides teaching, she has consulted with a variety of clients such as Boeing, U.S. Marines, U.S. Army, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, AXA, Marriott International, Verizon, China Development Bank, and HSBC. Currently she is a visiting Fulbright scholar at Sichuan University.

About the Lecture

Did you know that cultural norms influence our thought processes, reasoning, and language? Research into human cognition along with linguistic and social studies about culture’s influence on thought, reasoning, and understanding shows us that how we think about and perceive the world is influenced by our social structures, philosophies, and even educational systems, as initially formed in ancient Greece and Asia (China, Japan, Korea).
